Hispanic Heritage Month - Food Recipes of Latin America

The month between September 15th to October 15th is known as Hispanic Heritage Month. September 15th is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. 

To celebrated, we're sharing recipes for the amazing national dishes of each of these countries! Which is your fave? 😋

1. Gallo Pinto is the national dish of Costa Rica and Nicaragua! It features cooked rice, beans, a few seasonings, and Lizano sauce. In Spanish gallo pinto means “spotted rooster” and represents the speckled appearance the beans give the rice. Check out Pura Vida Mom's recipe here

2. Pupusas are the national dish of El Salvador. It is a thick griddle cake or flatbread made with corn flour (masa) and can be filled with a variety of different savory fillings, like cheese, beans, beef, pork or veggies. Check out A Cozy Kitchen's recipe here

3. Pepián De Pollo is the national dish of Guatemala. It is chicken in a sauce made of chiles, pumpkin SEEDS, sesame seeds, tomatoes, and onions. Check out Familia Kitchen's recipe here

4. Plato Típico is the national dish of Honduras. It includes a variety of foods, prepared separately, that come together to make a complete meal: Grilled meat and pork sausages, stewed beans, chismol, fried plantain, and rice. Check out At Home World Traveler's recipe here
